2019 Clinics & Happenings
(2020 updates coming soon!)

Intro to Climbing with Nathaniel Coleman

Come learn to climb from one of the best boulderers in the world! Petzl athlete Nathaniel Coleman is a three-time National Bouldering Champion.
Not only does Nathaniel compete on the world stage, he's also a premier outdoor climber -- and Utah native! Here's what he's got in store for y'all:

"Whether you're new to the sport or have been crushing in the gym for years, bouldering outside offers a lot to learn! We'll cover the most important things first: safety through pad placement and spotting, protecting Joe's Valley wildlife and boulders, and being courteous to other climbers. After that, it's climbing time baby, and who's not trying to climb a little bit better? We'll talk about technique, dealing with failure, projecting tactics, and training to name a few. I love talking about this stuff, from the basic building blocks to advanced movement, so bring your questions! I'm looking forward to a great day out bouldering!"

Saturday, September 28th @ 9 am (meet at rec center)

Climbing Confidence with Isaac Caldiero

Come join American Ninja Warrior Champion and author of the original Joe's Valley Guidebook Isaac Caldiero!  Space is limited for this intimate climbing session with Isaac as he discusses how to gain confidence on the rocks, his history with Joe's Valley, climbing tips he has learned during his professional career, and what it's like to be the first and only American Ninja Warrior Champion!

Saturday, September 28th @ 9 am (meet at rec center)

Gym-to-Crag with Lizzy Ellison

There are a lot of differences in gym climbing & outdoor climbing. Not knowing these can make the transition to climbing outside pretty intimidating! Join professional climber Lizzy Ellison to learn about the differences between the two styles of climbing, outdoor etiquette, as well as how to be a good member of the climbing community.

Lizzy Ellison is currently based in Boulder, CO. She has spent the last couple years in Utah with Joe’s being her go-to crag! She began climbing as a competition climber, but has quickly changed her focus when she started climbing outside. Now she spends her time traveling & climbing when she's not coaching!

Climbing Photography with Josh Ruchty

Theory & practice come together as outdoor adventure photographer Josh Ruchty of Mobius Photography dives deep into the psychology of why we love some climbing photos but not others. Bring your own if you dare, because part 1 of this workshop features a critical-analysis image-review where you will learn to identify what works, what doesn't, and why. From composition to color theory, you'll never see the world the same again.

Theory becomes skill in part 2 where you will practice shooting with a team of climber models. With supportive feedback throughout, you will learn how to work within the constraints of your scene, approach your shot with creativity and technical prowess, and practice everything from managing your ropes above to directing your model below.

Saturday, September 28th @ 9 am (meet at rec center)
